In Memoriam

Angela Gould, Director at Large

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of our founding board members, Angela Gould, 66. Angela passed away with her husband by her side late Friday night on February 27th, 2026.

Angela was a pioneer in computer science during a time when women were often unwelcome in the field, contributing to many defense initiatives. Later in life, she helped advance bio-medical research, playing a major role in developing stem cell treatments.

Joining MIRE, Angela shared her wisdom and experience from the early days of artificial intelligence and its development. When approached to be a member of the board, Angela agreed without hesitation, excited to be able to continue our goal of advancing technology in service of human dignity through research and public education initiatives.

Despite having a lifelong disability with cerebral palsy, she didn't let this keep her from her goals- receiving a master's of science in computer science and raising a family with her two sons, something doctors told her would be impossible.

We are grateful for her life and courage, and will miss her dearly.
